The 5-Minute Golf Bag Audit: 7 Checks Before Your Next Round

Most golfers have not properly checked their golf bag in years.

Things get thrown in, used once and forgotten. Old gloves collect in side pockets, loose balls roll around the bottom and the one tool you need always seems to be buried under everything else.

A five-minute golf bag audit clears the clutter and makes every round smoother. Do this at the start of each season, or any time your bag starts to feel more like a storage shed than part of your golf setup.

1. Check your grips

Run your hands over every grip. If a grip feels smooth, shiny, hard or slippery, it is costing you control. Worn grips quietly turn good swings into tense ones because you squeeze harder just to hold the club.

Clean lightly soiled grips with warm water and a soft brush, then dry them properly. If the tack and texture do not return, it is time to replace them.

2. Remove the dead weight

5. Check your towel setup

One half-wet towel is rarely enough by the back nine. Set up one section for mud and club faces and keep another section dry for grips, hands and balls.
